proud to be gluten-free?

most of the time i deal with my gluten intolerance in a matter of fact and calm way - if i eat something with gluten in it, i feel sick later on, so i don't eat things that i know have gluten in them...logíco
but i must admit that every few months or so i do get incredibly frustrated and depressed with the lack of choice i have in foods (especially combined with my preference to eat vegetarian) and also the inconvenience that i bring to different social situations - which can be especially tough when you are the new girl in town and want to make friends, but no, sorry, i cannot drink that beer, no sorry, i cannot eat that pizza, i cannot eat that bread, i cannot eat that pasta bla bla bla - but yes i am a fun easy going person to be around, trust me!
i was looking on the net and i found this website with gluten-friendly merchandise and it made me smile and realise that what i want is not "proud to be gluten-free" but normal...but then again...what is normal except a setting on a washing machine??

Zozo, I remember at IC 2004 Germany where I was at the buffet trying to get lunch for you.... and I had a vast variety of cheese and eggs, more cheese and more eggs...eggs and cheese and cheese and eggs... :):):)
But I definitely second you and announce to the world that you are VERY VERY easy going!!!!!!! :):)
Hey... you still need to meet my friend Juli..I will send a second email again........
Lots of love, cheese and eggs (sorry for my stupid sense of humour) :):)

Hey Zoe!
When you first told me that you had gluten intolerance and heard all of the things that have gluten in it, I couldn't believe all of the food that I can stuff into my gob without a thought. My great aussie spread.. my beverage of fermented grains....yet you can't even eat or drink it even if you wanted to.
I'm totally impressed with your vegeterianism. Gluten cuts out so many types of food yet you are determined enough to cut out more. It's enough even for a dead cow eater like me to think if I had even the guts to do it. I don't think I do, but I'm still thinking about it.
Then there's the move to THE most meat loving country that I have ever seen...! An American trainee warned me when I was still in India(before he remembered that I was one of those cow eaters) that when he ordered a salad in Brazil he got one with chicken.
I think its important to have someone special like you, that the rest of us have to think a little more carefully. All people are not just like me, don't like the same music as me, don't understand AFL football. How horrid would the world be if everyone was like me?
Thanks Zoe for your such easy goingness that you are willing to go the hell of guten intolerance.. a bakery. What was my wife thinking?
Cheers! (Caipirinha of course)

Can totally empathise, am allergic to dairy (and soy!), and tomatoes (and potatoes - wierd). And, man, there's a lot of things with tomato and potatoes in them out there. Sometimes I just have to ignore it, get sick and come out in a rash later on, but that's better than feeling like I am 'imposing' or putting down my hosts cooking. But gluten...that's a tough one! I second your easygoingness:)
