irish frolics

on the st patrick's day weekend i headed off to dublin with a plane full of crazy aiesec trainees...but i had a slightly different agenda for the weekend, that involved a bit less guiness and bit more family tree tracking and site seeing...

with the great help of two irish friends - paul and stephen reilly - whom i met through tash, henrique, carol and me explored a castle in kilkenny (where i discovered the origins of many furniture features and the concept of a "daily constitutional"); drove to galway where we celebrated with the locals when the irish rugby team grabbed victory from the jaws of defeat against england; enjoyed a local live band; did some site seeing in galway before we headed home checking out gravestones and castle ruins of possible distant relatives, visiting the barren landscape of The Burren and a 5000 year old tomb, going inside the Ailwee Caves and seeing the spectacular Cliffs of Moher

it was a really lovely weekend road trip - thanks heaps to paul and stephen for all their hospitality :)
